Matthew Greer

Artistic Director

Matthew Greer was appointed Artistic Director of Quintessence in 2009. In 2012, he was among the recipients of Creative Albuquerque's Bravos! Awards, honoring artistic innovation, entrepreneurship and community impact. He has recently served as a guest conductor for the New Mexico Philharmonic.

​He also serves as Director of Music and Worship Arts at St. John's United Methodist Church, where he directs several choirs and oversees a comprehensive music program. In 2004 and 2007, he was a Melodious Accord Fellow, studying song-leading and score analysis with Alice Parker. A native of Kansas City, he has degrees in music education and theology from Trinity University and Boston University.

Amy Greer

Accompanist

Quintessence accompanist (and alto!) Amy Greer is an active performer, both as a soloist and in collaboration with singers and instrumentalists. In 2015, she co-founded the popular house concert series, Movable Sol, with cellist Joel Becktell.

Recognized for her creative approach to traditional music lessons, she has maintained successful piano studios in New Mexico, Massachusetts, Texas and Missouri and gives workshops for teachers that focus on the psychology of learning through a musician’s lens. A writer and frequent contributor to music journals, her articles and essays have appeared in American Music Teacher, Clavier Companion, Spiritus and other publications. With composer Dennis Alexander, she is the co-author of Repertoire by Rote, published by Alfred Music and writes a blog about practicing at tenthousandstars.net.

She holds a Master of Music in piano performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a Master of Arts in educational psychology from the University of New Mexico. Amy shares her home, garden and brightly colored studio with one good-looking man, two sweet cats and a thousand books and plants.

Abby Greenwald

Executive Director

Abby has led music, ministry and educational endeavors for all ages at home and abroad. She studied music education at MacMurray College, and theology and ethnomusicology at Baylor University. A former hospital chaplain, Abby enjoys the community connections inherent in nonprofit work and the freedom of homeschooling two happy little kids.
