Choral Scholar FAQs
Who is eligible?
- High school singers who have completed grade ten through twelve.
- College singers currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree, or who have recently graduated.
- Strong preference will be given to those who participate in school choruses, as teacher recommendations figure greatly in the selection process.
How many spots are available?
- Eight high school scholars will be accepted: two sopranos, two altos, two tenors, and two basses.
- Eight college scholars will be accepted: two sopranos, two altos, two tenors, and two basses.
What does being a Choral Scholar involve?
- High school and college Scholars will participate in the large festival chorus, preparing and performing Brahms’ Requiem.
- Together with the other scholars, they will also form a Scholars Chorus, which will rehearse and perform other repertoire during the course of the week.
- Choral Scholars must participate in all scheduled rehearsals during the festival week in order to perform in the concert and receive their stipend.
- High school and college scholars will receive free registration to the choral festival, and a stipend of $100 (payable the day of the concert).
- Choral Scholars must
- come to the first rehearsal with music already learned.
- Choral Scholars may
- participate in all of the extra educational sessions during the course of the festival.

How to Apply FAQ
When are applications due?
- Applications are due no later than May 31.
When will I hear if I'm accepted?
- You will be notified by email no later than June 10.
How do I apply?
- You must apply by filling out the application form (linked below), and include a link to a YouTube audition video and a teacher recommendation.
- There is a nonrefundable $30 application fee. If you are not selected to be a scholar, you will receive a free registration to participate in the festival, and we hope you'll sing with the larger festival chorus.
What should I include in my audition video?
- First, tell us your name, age, and where you are in school.
- Then, sing one or two selections that show off your range and tone. (One is fine; there's no obligation to sing two, but it's OK if you do.)
- Selections can be accompanied or a cappella. Either is fine.
- Please upload video to YouTube. (We recommend classifying it as "unlisted.") Then, include the link to the video in the appropriate line on your application form.
